Regional Information Offices.

POWERS

1. To represent the Institute in the region and to establish an adequate coordination with state and municipal governments, as well as with representatives of chambers and industry associations and commercial enterprises, higher education institutions and science and technology research centers.
2. To offer expert advice on technical matters related to the submission of applications for the granting of industrial property rights: distinctive signs (trademarks, trade names, slogans, appellations of origin); inventions (patents, industrial designs, utility models, industrial secrets).
3. Rapid response capabilities in order to report to users, in a timely fashion, the progress obtained regarding requested formalities and corresponding paperwork.
4. To apply substantive examination to applications.
5. To offer advisory services for the filing of applications requesting administrative proceedings against infringements of rights.
6. To provide support to IMPI´s staff when performing activities for the protection of industrial property (notices, inspection visits, merchandise seizures, closures, among others.
7. To promote and organize, in cooperation with other state and federal institutions, campaigns against piracy and unfair competition.
8. To promote and disseminate information technology systems in the region, between enterprises and science and technology research institutions, with the aim of achieving a better use of IMPI´s domestic and international patents information banks.
9. To set up in every headquarter an electronic library containing technical information on patents , with the aim of disseminating information services among enterprises and science and technology institutions.
10. To actively participate with universities and research centers in the identification of innovations, its adequate protection, and commercial exploitation by interested companies.

1. INFORMATION

   About economic and commercial activities in the region.
   Participation in exhibitions on inventions and technology development, among others.
   Conferences and events.

2. CUSTOM SERVICE

   Information services to the public.
   Attention to businessmen, merchants, universities, research centers, as well as independent inventors.
   To ensure public confidence in the system and its smooth functioning.

3. ADVISING

   Regarding correction in the writing of applications.
   Detailed explanation of the processes for their filing, as well as documentary collections of information technology.

4. PROTECTION

   The protection of the rights of holders of distinctive signs (trademarks, trade names, slogans and appellations of origin), as well as of holders inventions (patents, industrial designs and utility models).

5. LINK

   To serve as reception point for applications of users who live in the region so that they do not have to travel to Mexico City to file them.

It is being communicated to the public in general the entry into force of a new program named "Attention to users in the interior of the Republic Improvement Program”, which consists in the reception and sending of patent and trademarks applications filed at local branches of the Ministry of Economy, which are sent for processing to IMPI´s Regional Offices and not to Mexico City, as it was done before this project was implemented, with the benefit of streamlining the process. It also includes specialized counseling, scheduled at Federal Offices of the Ministry of Economy.
With these two actions, IMPI is in the process of bringing services to users of the system in their place of residence.
